APR Motorsport Adds Steve Gorriaran and Aaron Stehley to ST Squad as the Team Seeks Another Podium at Lime Rock
After achieving their first podium of the year, the APR Motorsport VW DriverGear team rolls on to the fast and historic Lime Rock Park on a quest for another podium finish. Last year at Lime Rock, the team was able to come away with a pole and a 2nd place finish and the team is looking forward to returning to the Lakeville, CT circuit in search of more accolades for the 2010 season.
Lime Rock was a true turning point for APR last year as the team rapidly moved up in the points standings following their 2nd place finish in 2009. In 2010, the team is hoping for the same sort of turnaround during the next 3 rounds. “Josh and I, as well as Jeff Mishtawy and the rest of the APR crew, are extremely methodical in our approach to these races. This creates a very calm and determined team effort that I think will serve us well in this very busy middle part of the season. Three races in 4 weeks – I can’t wait to get back on track!”” said Kevin Stadtlander, driver for the 181 APR Motorsport VW. Stadtlander’s co-driver, Josh Hurley, tells us his feelings on the upcoming Lime Rock event “I’m really looking forward to it; I got my first pole in Grand Am here last year and love the circuit. I’m also getting to run for a cause at Lime Rock as I’m carrying the purple ribbon of the Patty Boshell Pancreatic Cancer Foundation on my helmet, so I have a little extra motivation to get on the podium for them. I know that all three of our APR Motorsport VW DriverGear GTi’s are going to be quick and I can’t wait to battle for a win!”
Steven Gorriaran will be making his first start for APR Motorsport in the 171 car, alongside Mike Halpin. “I’m really excited to have Steve join the team. He has had a ton of success in a multitude of different cars. I feel like he and I will be a great fit together” said Mike Halpin. Steven also shared his excitement for the weekend, “Driving for APR Motorsport is going to be an absolute blast. I’ve had the pleasure of running with a lot of different teams and APR’s approach is among the best. I’m just counting the hours till I’m on the track,” said Steven.
Aaron Stehley will be filling in for Stephen Hooks while he is away on international business, and making his Continental Tire Challenge debut at Lime Rock Park alongside Jason Aranha in the 91 APR Motorsport VW DriverGear GTi. Aaron has been racing an APR Motorsport prepared VW GTi in SCCA T3 in 2009 which culminated in a podium at the SCCA Runoffs. With his wealth of prior experience in VW GTi’s and his prior work with the APR Motorsport team, Aaron is anticipating a seamless transition to the Continental Tire Sports Car Challenge, “I’ve really enjoyed working with APR Motorsport during my runoffs run last year and this is the perfect time to take it to the next level. It’s exciting to be able to make my debut with a team and a car that I’m already comfortable with, and I could not dream of a better way to move up to the Continental Tire Sports Car Challenge than in an APR Motorsport VW!” said Stehley. Jason Aranha who debuted with APR at VIR, reacted to the news of his new teammate, “I’m ecstatic to have Aaron onboard. Even though I just started in the Continental Tire Sports Car Challenge last race at VIR, I feel that we’re going to be competitive together. He has already proven his pace in a VW and I learned some lessons at VIR, so together I think we’re going to be towards the top of the timesheets” said Jason.

Stehly Racing/ Kumho Tires VW Starts 2010 on Top
Beloit, Wis. May 1, 2010: The off season didn’t take any post Runoff’s momentum away from Stehly Racing and their Kumho Tire sponsored Touring 3 VW GTI. Starting their year at Blackhawk Farms Raceway for the Blackhawk Valley Double National on April 30-1st, the team doubled up race groups and ran both in Touring 3 and Super Touring, ending the weekend with three 1st and one 2nd place finish while managing to set a new T3 track record.
According to driver Aaron Stehly “ We had two goals for this event. First was to drive as much as possible and use the extra time to feel out our new (wider) Kumho V710 tire selection. Our second goal was to break the track record in Touring 3. Having only rotated the tires prior to the start of the 3rd race, and setting the new lap record at that time, we are ecstatic about what the V710 has to offer. The tire was consistently fast and predictable with clear feedback. We logged just over 200 race miles in two days on the same set of tires and they have yet to fall off like other tires we have used in past years.”
Keeping their focus on the 2010 Runoffs Championship, the team is diligently prepping the car for the next event, the Cat nationals on May 21-23rd at Road America in Elkhart Lake Wis.
